“More revenue and better service”
UP Carwash is a well-known name in the carwash market, with Alkmaar as one of its locations. Extendas recently took a major step by making unmanned payment possible for conveyor carwashes as well. At UP Carwash in Alkmaar, this solution was installed at the end of February. With the combination of a SPINopc Payment Terminal, smart integrations and license plate recognition, a renewed setup of the washing process has been realised.
From manned to smart and scalable
The reason was clear: to become more profitable, use staff more efficiently, and improve service at the same time. “We really wanted to take a step towards digitalisation and efficiency. Not just to save costs, but especially to improve our service,” says Pieter Commandeur, Commercial Director of UP Carwash.
Where the Alkmaar location previously operated with one lane, it has now been expanded to two lanes. One lane is equipped with the unmanned SPINopc terminal, where customers can choose their washing programme, add extras, and pay directly themselves. The other lane remains manned with the existing SPINpos cash register, for cash payments and support.
'We already see that customers are more quickly choosing more extensive programmes and additional options. This has a positive effect on the average transaction value.'

In this way, UP Carwash combines personal service with greater comfort, flexibility, and shorter waiting times.
Smart technology, smooth to use
License plate recognition is an important part of the solution. Purchased programmes are automatically linked to the vehicle, making receipts less necessary and improving traffic flow. It also ensures smooth access and extra control at the interior cleaning lane.
In addition, the SPINopc can be configured flexibly. Screens and flows can be adapted to the organisation’s look & feel and to the desired upsell processes. “What we have created together in terms of UI and UX works very well. The system is user-friendly and gives us a lot of flexibility,” says Pieter.
Besides UP Carwash, more than 150 carwash cash registers are already in use.
