SPINopc boosts revenue and lowers barriers

Convenience is key. That is exactly what Extendas’ SPINopc payment terminal offers, both to operators of unmanned rollovers or tunnel carwashes and to their customers. One of those operators is Vissers Energy Group. “SPINopc scores very high on convenience indeed,” says carwash manager Jeroen Visser. “Because of that, and because of the many functions and possibilities of the payment terminal, it helps increase revenue.”

Jeroen Visser therefore considers the SPINopc payment terminal a solid investment. “We now use it at six locations. We purchased the first two about five years ago. The experience was so positive that we expanded the number. For new locations, this system is also our preferred choice. The reason is simple. Customers can pay quickly and easily using contactless payment. It is very user friendly and customer friendly. And it is cashless. We choose that intentionally. A payment terminal that accepts both cash and contactless payment easily costs three times as much. There is also the safety aspect. A machine without cash in it is not interesting for criminals.”

Upgrades and upselling
Other advantages of SPINopc, according to Jeroen, are the upsell possibilities. “The terminal has a large and user friendly multimedia screen. You can give the screen your own branding and look and feel. It also allows you to communicate well with customers. When someone selects a wash program, the screen draws attention to upgrades and extras, including the small additional price. We can also promote campaigns and special offers. These upsell options work very well. Customers use them more often compared to purchasing wash programs in the shop. We really appreciate our employees, but everyone forgets something from time to time, including upselling. And one person simply has better sales skills than another. SPINopc never forgets anything and turns out to be a natural salesperson”, Jeroen says with a smile.

Marketing opportunities
At the SPINopc terminals used by Vissers, customers can pay with a debit card, smartphone, subscription or QR code. “The terminal is configured for all of these options,” Jeroen explains. (Certain SPINopc terminal types also allow payment with fuel cards and wash cards, and soon with a multi-ride card.) “Because customers can also pay with a QR code, the system offers many marketing opportunities. These include discount promotions through advertisements or direct mail, for example for a customer’s birthday. This makes the payment terminal truly revenue enhancing. It already increases revenue simply by being available. At existing locations where we switched from payment in the shop to SPINopc, we saw revenue rise. This is not only due to upselling and marketing, but also because many customers prefer to pay quickly and directly at the carwash. They choose that consciously. For that group, this unmanned payment solution definitely lowers the threshold.”

Very reliable
When customers arrive, of course the payment terminal must work. “That is absolutely essential,” says Jeroen. “If it does not work, the customer leaves. If it happens again, the customer may not return. With SPINopc you do not need to worry about that. The terminal is very reliable and almost always operational. And if something does happen, Extendas solves it quickly, usually remotely. The device also includes a self-repair function.”

SPINopc 2.0
Listening to Jeroen Visser, you might think the system cannot be improved further. Yet that is the case. Extendas has updated SPINopc, with completely renewed software. “For this, we used feedback from a group of customers including Vissers Energy Group,” says Tim Bethlehem, CEO and co-owner of Extendas. “SPINopc 2.0 is even faster, more user friendly and more future proof. The screen offers more possibilities for personalised promotions and custom content, and the language options have been significantly expanded. Like the current version, the new version works well with licence plate based washing and is compatible with other systems and equipment. We expect the renewed SPINopc to be available around the middle of next year.”

Award nomination
Extendas presented the updated payment terminal at the Car Wash Show Europe held in September. Implementation consultant Ronald Huve from Mokobouw, the company responsible for installation, was also present at the stand. SPINopc was nominated for one of the Car Wash Innovation of the Year Awards, in the category of digitalisation. In the online voting, the award went to another product. Bethlehem says: “Of course that is disappointing, but the nomination itself, the enthusiastic reactions at the exhibition and the positive feedback from existing users give us a lot of confidence in making SPINopc a great success.”
